Berthe Mouchette Competition

Alliance Française

Every year, the Alliance Française de Melbourne organises a statewide competition: the Berthe Mouchette competition – a major event in the French learning calendar. The challenge for the participants is to learn an entire French poem off by heart, and then recite it in front of the judge.

A few students from the St Aloysius French classes have been selected to compete this year. For a few of them it was their second or third time in the competition. Students have really embraced the challenge by showing up to weekly rehearsals since Term One. They have been personally trained by Mlle Bourgault, but there was definitely a lot of teamwork and choral rehearsal happening too! All competitors have made an exceptional effort to memorise the poem, to perfect their pronunciation, and to deliver the poem with a cheerful interpretation as the theme was Olympics.

Their results are an accurate reflection and reward for their effort, and the whole school is very proud of them.
