Dante Alighieri
On Monday, June 3rd, the Year 9 & 10 students currently studying Italian participated in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition at the University of Melbourne.
Afterward, the students walked to Lygon Street to immerse themselves in Italian culture and cuisine. They visited many long-established Italian businesses, such as the DOC delicatessen, University café, CO AS IT Museum to name a few. The students enjoyed lunch at an Italian restaurant of their choice with their friends and were treated to authentic Italian gelato from the renowned Gelateria Pidapipó.
The following three students, Gemma Lehane (9B), Astha Bharadwaj (10B) and Addison White (10C) received a perfect score (100%) for their poetry recitations, by the external assessor and were invited back to Melbourne University to recite their poems again with the other the finalists in the State on the 25th June. I congratulate Gemma who made it all the way through to the Grand Final!

Today was a fantastic day. We enjoyed lunch at a traditional Italian restaurant and savoured delicious gelati. Strolling around Lygon Street, we explored the cultural richness of the area, visiting various restaurants and museums. It was a pleasure to walk around with friends and teachers, along with students from other schools, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Today began with a trip to Melbourne University, where we nervously recited our Dante poems. Despite our nerves about reciting a poem in another language to a stranger, we were happy with our performance. Following the competition, we walked to Lygon Street, renowned as Little Italy. We explored various shops, including the Italian Museum at CO AS IT, cafes, restaurants and Italian Deli Shops. We enjoyed an authentic Italian lunch and 2 scoops of gelato from the famous gelateria, Pipa Pipo, fully immersing ourselves in the rich Italian culture throughout the day. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Gemma L, 9B
On Monday 3rd June, we attended Melbourne University to recite an Italian poem as part of the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition. Despite our nerves, we managed to perform successfully. Afterward, we walked down to Lygon Street, a place affectionately known as Little Italy, to savour authentic Italian cuisine and immerse ourselves in the vibrant Italian culture. Enjoying time with friends and teachers was the perfect way to celebrate our achievement and deepen our appreciation for the rich traditions of Italy. Annie-Rose A, 9C
Today, we performed our Dante Alighieri poems, which was a rewarding experience. Visiting Melbourne University and then heading to Lygon Street with my friends was incredibly fun. Olivia T, 9A
