From the Deputy Principal
On Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th
November, we applauded the students who have achieved success in academics, competitive sport, arts, languages, debating and science competitions. The College Hall was full of students and family members celebrating the achievements of students in our College community and taking a moment to acknowledge the year before Step Ahead 2024.
Celebration Evening opened with a focus on our learning programs with students processing with samples of work from units across the curriculum which collectively formed a static display on stage. This was a reminder that all students achieve knowledge, understanding and a broad range of skills, and they study mainly in a collaborative environment. Opening and closing in prayers of gratitude added to the formal, communal end enjoyable event.
A brother/sister duo, Sarah & Dean Barravecchio marked in song the successful transition to co-education this year that has been so warmly accepted by our community. Musical performances by the College Choir, Aloysius Acapella and ‘Seussical’ production songs were additional highlights along with debating speeches and reflections presented by Saskia Wong of her first year of secondary school at St Aloysius College.
The next day Farewell Assemblies were held in Year Levels to present an even broader range of certificates and achievements for our students. I thank all the students and staff for their hours of preparation and contributions.
As soon as students recovered from these events and staff had marked exams and assignments, we were moving onward and upward into Step Ahead. New Pastoral groups, timetables, lockers, classes and subjects energised students to feel confident and positive about progressing to the next level. Even the students appeared to have grown taller if possible.
The final weeks are still filled with students organising their learning and receiving ‘holiday post work, which I am sure will ensure a positive start first day back next year. Parents should note that reports will be available via Engage by the middle of next week, just click on ‘Reports’. Also access to feedback specific to summative assessment tasks is via Engage ‘Assessments’.
Final Days:
- Years 11&12: Friday 1st December 3.20pm finish
- Years 8-10: Wednesday 6th December 12.25 finish
