From the Deputy Principal
Whilst the warmth of the summer sun energised us and we took advantage of the long daylight hours to connect with family and friends, we excitedly turn to the commencement of Term 1, setting personal goals and aspirations, welcoming new members to our community and reconnecting with established friends.
During the summer break, the campus received some upgrades to rooms and resources, and the new campus on Boundary Rd continued its development. These changes are important, however, the mission of the College remains steady: to deliver tailored, innovative programs of learning and wellbeing for our students and remain committed to living the Mercy Values. We begin with our parents and carers acknowledging the Mercy Code of Conduct to set a positive, respectful tone for all our interactions. This document and other policies will be delivered to our community; a reminder for returning families and information for our new community members, so all enjoy the benefits of these supportive policies and protocols. Creating an environment that follows the Child Safe Standards is a duty to which we all need to adhere, understand and contribute.
Community Connect is our parent/carers group which organise events to connect families and support the College through fundraising and social events. The commitment is not an onerous one, and we are always happily welcoming new members so please register your interest at communityconnect@aloysius.vic.edu.au
Communications from Year Level Leaders have been distributed, outlining logistics for the returning students and I invite you to keep abreast of this information. For example, we will be asking parents/carers to utilise a new feature in the Learning Management (SEQTA), Engage, to indicate late arrivals, early departures and absences as the St Aloysius Parent App will be superseded with more efficient communication practices; the email absence@aloysius.vic.edu.au will continue to be monitored. Parents/carers new to our community can join a training session for Engage at the College Wednesday 5th February at 7.30pm immediately after the Year 7 Parents Pastoral Teachers session commencing at 7pm.
A special way to celebrate our Faith which steers our Mercy ethos and connects us all will take place at the Opening School Mass - St Patrick’s Cathedral, February 28th at 10am. If parents, carers, families are available we would be delighted for you to join the students and staff for this formal and memorable occasion.
Ad Altiora,
Rachel Valentine
