A Week of Celebration, Inspiration, and Learning

From the Principal

Although the new academic year has only just commenced, this week has been one of celebration, personal growth, and shared experiences.

The week began with our first College Assembly of the year—where we welcomed our new Year 7 students, and all other students who have joined us this year, and where we extended a very special welcome to our new staff. We are all excited to have them as part of our vibrant community, united by our Mercy values and our motto, Strive for Higher Things.

During this Assembly the High Achievers of the class of 2024 were awarded and congratulated on their outstanding results that were a testament to their hard work, to their perseverance, and to their dedication to achieving excellence and the unwavering support of their teachers, and families. Their success serves as an inspiration to all current students, reinforcing the importance of curiosity, effort, and a commitment to their studies.

The 2024 College Dux, Molly Mealmaker who achieved an ATAR of 99.1 delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on her journey at St Aloysius.

In her address, she also shared practical tips on achieving a healthy balance between study, co-curricular activities, and personal wellbeing, emphasising the significance of time management, self-discipline, and seeking support from teachers and peers. Her words were both motivating and reassuring, reminding students that success is not just measured by results but also by the passion for learning and the ability to persevere through difficulties.

In addition, our Year 12s attended a retreat, at the Australian Catholic University yesterday and today, and as they prepare to celebrate their formal this evening, I hope they all have a good time and a safe one.

Our Year 9 students ventured to Canberra. While exploring the capital, and immersing themselves in citizenship and civics, they certainly had a great experience and I extend a big thank you to Emma Turner, the Year 9 Team Leader and all the staff who supported by attending or planning for a successful journey and experience.

This week also saw a range of activities designed for students from Year 7, 8, 10 and 11 tailored to their respective programs, ensuring that every member of our community had the opportunity to learn, and grow.

As we celebrate these inspiring events, we wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! Celebrated each year on February 14th, the Christian tradition honouring Saint Valentine, as a symbol of compassion and selfless love. Today, Valentine’s Day reminds us to cherish kindness, and friendship.

Last Thursday, we welcomed the Year 7 parents to the Year 7 Information Evening, an important opportunity to introduce them to life at St Aloysius. The evening began with meeting the pastoral group teachers who gave an overview of key aspects of the Year 7 journey, including academic expectations, wellbeing support, and co-curricular opportunities. This was followed by a session on how to use the Parent Portal on the College Learning Management System, ensuring families feel well-equipped to engage with their child's learning. It was pleasing to see so many parents eager to begin their partnership with St Aloysius, and we look forward to working together.
