Happy Easter

From the Principal

As this is the last newsletter of this Term, I would like to share with you some special events and celebrations in our Catholic Church Calendar which will occur during the Term break.

On Sunday 13 April, we will celebrate Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Palm Sunday remembers how Jesus rode a young donkey when he made his humble entry into Jerusalem.

The people greeted Jesus, waving and covering his path with palm branches:

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
(Matthew 21:9)

The shouts of "Hosanna" meant "save now," and the palm branches symbolised goodness and victory.

Holy Week comes to its conclusion on Holy Saturday and Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday), which, this year, occurs on Sunday April 20th. Easter Sunday commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary (Jesus has risen, Luke 24:1-12). Through resurrection, we believe life has triumphed over death, good over evil, hope over despair and Jesus is with us and is guiding us every day. Let’s pray for triumph for all those in our world who are suffering for different reasons.

To celebrate these special events, we will be having a college liturgy this Monday.

At the beginning of the term break, a group of 13 students will embark upon our first trip to France where they will be visiting a school and touring different parts of the country. I would like to extend my thanks to Elisa Litvin, Curriculum Documentation and Reporting Leader, Alizée Bourgault and Jordan Miller, the Year 7 Leader, for all the planning they have made to ensure our students will have a rewarding experience and for their time during the Term break. Bon Voyage.

Last Friday March 21, we celebrated Harmony Day, a day to celebrate our cultural diversity – a day of respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Activities were organised during pastoral for all year levels.

Happy Easter and have a safe break.
