From Year 10
From delving into the works like Macbeth in English, unraveling the mysteries of genetics in Science, honing their cricket skills in Sports, perfecting a melodramatic play in Theatre Studies, to mastering the art of resume writing in Future Me, our Year 10 students are embracing a diverse range of learning experiences at the College. Their dedication and hard work in all these areas of learning are truly commendable. Through a variety of activities, observation, and experiments, they are gaining both skill-based and knowledge-based information.
One of the most inspiring moments of this fortnight was the visit from our Japanese sister school, Kyoto Seibo Gakuin. The highlight was the Year 10 Theatre Studies class, where the Japanese students, with the support of our students, participated in a short melodrama performance. Their courage in reciting the lines and performing was truly commendable. This exchange experience was not only incredible for the Japanese students but also a source of inspiration for our students. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Year 10 students and their families, for hosting the Japanese students.
Congratulations to Fadzai Bako who has won the title of ACS Public Speaking. Her determination and perseverance have definitely paid off. Here is her reflection on her experience.
Winning ASC public speaking was an amazing experience. Although last year I won as well, this year was completely different. When I finished my speech, I walked with my head down as I believed I hadn't done my best; in fact, I thought I did the worst amongst my peers. However, when my name was called for first place, it was a very bittersweet moment because I thought I didn't deserve my win. However, after several conversations, I realised that I had truly put my whole heart into that speech, and this taught me two things: That I am my harshest critic, and I can't be perfect every single time I do a speech. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to share the things that are closest to my heart and help as many people as I can.

Student Reflections
This week, I hosted a Japanese exchange student from our sister school. Our student visited my ice hockey practice, then we watched the North Melbourne and Richmond game at Marvel Stadium on Saturday. on Sunday, we visited Bells Beach and had lunch, then took a ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento. We walked around some local shops and also got fish and chips and ice cream.

Over the weekend, Muse, a Japanese exchange student who is staying me this week, visited a few places around Victoria to introduce Muse to some of the activities that I do. We went and saw the animals at the Healesville sanctuary, and we saw the Birds of Prey show while we were there. Muse's favourite animal was the Tasmanian Devil, and mine was the Red Bellied Black Snake. We also went to the St Andrew's market where we walked through the stalls and had a look at the local produce from the area. Muse and I had a lot of fun together experiencing the fun social scene in Melbourne and getting to know one another.

We’re nearly halfway through Term 3, and Year 10 is busily preparing for upcoming tests and assessments for many of our subjects. In Year 10, we’ve been participating in co-curricular activities to earn points for our houses, including STEM, Social Justice, Performing Arts, and Manual and Digital Art. These activities encourage us to develop our skills alongside our peers while having fun. In line with the 2024 Paris Olympics, the St Aloysius Olympics are underway! So far, we’ve had table tennis, basketball, soccer and volleyball games, with whole-school participation, whether that be cheering on your house or playing. We’re all excited to continue cheering on our classmates as we conclude the St Als Olympics this week.
