From Year 7
For many Year 7s, the countdown to the end has officially begun. With seven weeks left, their first year of secondary school is almost over. Excitement for what next year may look like has filled discussions across the group.
I asked two students to write about what they are most excited about for next year.
As this year comes to a close, there are many things to look forward to, especially the fast-approaching Year 8. With a new year comes many new opportunities to socialise, experience new things, and of course, learn. One of the things I’m most excited about is the new level of ACS. With Year 8 comes the ‘Intermediate’ league, which is not just for Year 8s but includes a mix of Year 9s too. Coming off the back of a trophy with the Year 7A soccer team, I’m excited to face a new challenge alongside my former teammates, and some new ones too.

For next year, I’m quite excited for a fresh start. I’m excited about my new class and the new subjects we will have. By new subjects, I mean learning about making healthy food and different ways to eat well while still enjoying it. I'm also excited about the new roles we’ll be given and about helping the new Year 7s find their way around the school, as we’ve been in the same boat this year. I’m looking forward to meeting new teachers and discovering new things in every subject. For example, in English, we’ll study new books, and in maths, I can improve and get better. I can also choose new sports for ACS and continue to improve in the ones I already play, while reconnecting with the coaches and showing them I’m ready for a fresh start.

However, it isn’t over just yet, and this term is going to be a busy one. Here is just a snippet of what’s been going on and what’s to come for our Year 7s.
In Health and PE, our Year 7s will be embarking on their aquatic unit, where they will be learning about water safety and swimming. In partnership with Melbourne City Council, the swim programme will help educate students, equipping them with the tools they need to stay safe around water.
In Science and STEAM, students will have the opportunity to visit Melbourne Zoo, where they will connect theory with practice. Students have been exploring topics such as Animals, Ecosystems, Captivity, and Conservation, and this excursion will be a great way for them to engage with and, hopefully, meet some of the amazing animals on show.
Over to languages, Term 4 has already started with a bang, as Year 7s were treated to the ‘Italian Show’ incursion, where our students were immersed in the language and culture of Italy. Although there were some silly and wacky characters, the students were able to learn in a relaxed setting. Smiles were wide after this session!
Key Dates:
