From Year 7
Farewell Assembly
With the help of Miss Leonard and Miss Fethers we took time to reflect on the year that was. Some tears were shed, but they were tears of joy. In the theme of farewell, we also presented a range of awards. From Languages to Sport, our cohort has dominated all areas. We had a special moment with Jack and William Polli both achieving in the Italian Poetry Competition. We saw students recognised for their sporting efforts, with the ACS Coach’s Award being delivered wrapping up with gifts, organised by the students, for Pastoral Leaders, recognising their care, hard work, and kindness across 2024.
Step Ahead
With Farewell Assembly concluding, so did Year 7. Our students began their Step Ahead program where they have started engaging with their new pastorals, subjects and teachers for 2025. It is an opportunity for students to start making new connections in their groups while also getting a feel for what is to come. While it may seem scary, repeating the process of starting over, our students have embraced so much change already this year, this will seem like a walk in the park. And plus, Step Ahead can’t be that bad, they are already making pizza in Mr Bina’s Year 8 Food Technology Class! It was also incredible to see Markus Hatzis washing the dishes, a dedicated foodie in the making! Wishing the Year 7 2024 Cohort the best of luck in the future study. It has been a pleasure.
Yesterday in periods 2 and 3, our class had its first-ever food tech lesson with Mr Bina. At first, we were daunted by the complex system of kitchenware and the vast array of utensils that filled the draws and shelfs of the kitchen. But with the help of experience from Mr Bina (Who conveniently happened to be a former chef), we learned very quickly. In this particular lesson, we ran through the the safety procedures and precautions that we had to take under consideration whenever in the kitchen. We were also introduced to all the equipment that we were going to use during class. Once we knew everything, the fun began! Our class was split up into groups. As a group, our task was to make a pizza using a variety of ingredients such as capsicum, pepperoni and mushrooms. Of course, there were many obstacles during the cooking process. I for one suffered a blood nose due to the extreme heat of the oven. But in the end, the result was a delicious pizza which we got to eat at the end (of the lesson). Although this lesson taught me many things, the main thing that I took away from this lesson is that, in the words Chef Gusteau, "Anyone can cook".
