Ending Term 3 on a High

From Year 8

As we conclude Term 3, I commend the Year 8 students on a fantastic term! Reflecting on the last two weeks, the Year 8 students have experienced an exciting combination of learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom. It has been a term filled with growth, challenges, resilience and academic success.

On Monday 9th September, the Year 8 students participated in a Math Show Performance. It was fantastic to see the students engaged in the content, from utilising their critical thinking skills to problem-solving, it was a brilliant way to reignite passion for mathematics. A big thank you to Ms Yang and Ms Martin for organising the performance.

Mercy Day was celebrated on Friday, 13th September, and it was a fantastic day for the entire College community! The Year 8 students worked closely with their Pastoral Leader to plan, create and deliver an activity that encouraged participation from our College community and to raise funds for Mercy Charities. The spirit of generosity and unity was on full display during Mercy Day, as the Year 8 students enthusiastically participated in the activities. I commend the Year 8 Cohort and Pastoral Leaders for an exceptional job!

Across Term 2 and Term 3, the students participated in the House Co-Curricular Competition. It was fantastic to see their dedication and enthusiasm to create or deliver projects, pieces of art, performances and social justice projects. The competition was celebrated and acknowledged on Mercy Day, with the Performing Arts finalists and announcement of the winners. Congratulations to all the Year 8 students for participating in the competition!

On Monday 16th September, the Year 8 and 9 students gathered in the hall for the 2025 Vice Prefect Speeches. I’d like to congratulate the following students on their speeches, Seb Hall, Chloe Korras, Allegra Lees, Marcus Ng, Matilda O’Mahoney, Adrienne Ong, Isabella Ortiz, Lupita Pullen, Noah Richardson Buchanan, Olivia Thaus, Holly Trang, Annamai Wells, Lexie Williams, and Saskia Wong. Learning Highlight - Year 8 Science

The Year 8 students have been diving into the fascinating world of human biology, with a focus on the digestive and respiratory systems in Year 8 Science. The theory and practical lessons have been designed to spark curiosity and develop a deeper understanding of how our bodies function every day. A central focus was the relationship between structure and function at cell, organ and body system levels.

In Science this term we have been learning about calls and body systems. Throughout the unit we learnt about different parts in an email and plan call and learnt about the differences. An in our current unit we are learning about different systems in our body such as our digestive system and respiratory system. It’s been fun and interesting learning about all of this and I enjoyed it.

We have been learning about the body systems and cells throughout this term. We have learnt about the digestive system, respiratory system , animal cells and lastly plant cells. When we were learning about cells we got to use microscopes and make our own slides to put under the microscope. We had an assessment where we had to make a plant or animal cell model, using different materials, for example some students made a cake or a diorama. We got to use balloons that represents how the lungs work in our body.

This term we have been learning about body systems and cells. We have done a lot of practicals by looking in a microscope and looking at blood and parts of organs. In body systems we are learning about the digestive system and the structure of it and how everything functions. Then we started looking at the respiratory system, including the different parts and how it functions. We have also made a model from plastic bottles and balloons that represents how the lungs work.
