From Year 8
On Monday the 17th March, we had the privilege of having Eric Aygeman attend the College with a keynote session for the year 8 cohort. Eric’s presentation spoke strongly about the power of words which aligns closely with the Year 8 theme of Connect.
Eric shared his story of being a young child who had moved from Ghana to New Zealand, and then to Melbourne. He was faced with adversity throughout the entirety of his childhood and through his story, the students explored the themes of bullying, resilience and the importance of relationships. Eric also had his published book called “Unstoppable! A 30-day Emotional Resilience Journal” for teenagers to support growth as they navigate through high school. Well done to Matty and Raph who both won a copy of the book.
On Monday the 24th March, we had a Junior College Assembly to present and acknowledge our Semester One Class captains and House leaders for 2025. It was fantastic to see the pride on each of the students’ faces, and I am confident they will be wonderful leaders for their peers. Thank you to Ms Farah and Mr Needle in support of the presentation.
Below are a few student reflections with learning and ACS the past fortnight.

Year 8 Leader
The ACS Soccer Blue Team had an incredible performance, winning two exciting games. In the first match against St Michael's, we showed off our teamwork and skill, securing a well-matched victory with strong passes and solid defence. Our second game against Westbourne Grammar School was just as impressive, with everyone stepping up and playing their best. Our offense was sharp, and the defence held strong, ensuring another well-deserved win. It was an amazing effort from every player!

Currently in Humanities we are learning about different landscapes such as rivers and mountains, we are also learning how living things such as animals and plants have adapted to these landscapes. Our last unit was on Mega Cities. For our assessment we researched a chosen Mega City, then recorded our findings.

For this term, Year 8 Art has been teaching students how to craft a pinch pot from clay. We investigated different techniques to use to get to our final product. Also, how the various tools have different purposes to shape and design our pot. Our final piece will be a pinch pot in the form of an animal of student choices. Throughout the many lessons, Year 8 students have been thoroughly enjoying, and working hard in Art. Overall, Year 8 Art has been a great and innovative subject to learn.
