From Year 9
The last two weeks have been very busy for our Year 9 cohort. Students commenced the process of Semester Two Class Co-captain nomination, speech delivery and voting. Students from Year 9 Scully House commenced their Mercy RITES Project of tutoring students from St Brendan’s Primary School. Our Year 9 tutors assisted primary school students with multiplications and angles measurement in Maths, reading and sharing their experiences about high school. Students have enjoyed the experience and it was definitely a good way to give back to the community.
Another highlight was the visit from our Japanese sister school, Kyoto Seibo Gakuin. This exchange experience was not only incredible for the Japanese students, but also a source of inspiration for our College students. I would like to thank Year 9 students and their families for hosting the Japanese students. Our Year 9 students who study Japanese also had the opportunity to take the Japanese sister school students to NGV for an excursion this week which provide an incredible experience of exchanging languages and cultures.
Our Year 9 students, whether they are delving into the complexities of Romeo and Juliet in English, or unraveling the mysteries of the Industrial Revolution in Humanities, have consistently demonstrated their adaptability, resilience, and perseverance. Their commitment to facing challenges head-on and their unwavering display of Mercy Values in all aspects of their school life is truly commendable.

Year 9 and Year 10 Leader
Students of 9A had the opportunity to hear from our Year 11 leaders as they presented to the school for a variety of prefect positions. The speeches gave 9A a great opportunity to consider their own leadership potential, particularly as nominations for class representative begin. Students in 9A will begin the process of nomination in pastoral this week, with brief speeches to the class taking place next week. Hopefully, today’s assembly gave the girls some great ideas on how to frame their speech, engage their audience, and how to discuss leadership.

Year 9 Pastoral Leader
This week I have had the opportunity to host a Japanese exchange student. I met her on Thursday, and took her on a tour of the school. On Friday we took Yui out for dinner in the city, taking her up the Melbourne Skydeck to have a great view of the city. On the weekend we went to Lorne, Anglesea, Erskine Falls and Healesville Sanctuary. We got to get close up to koalas, have fish and chips on the beach and Yui even got to try Vegemite. On Thursday the Year 9 Japanese class got to go to the NGV with the exchange students, so I got to spend more time with Yui and her friends. We split into groups and toured the gallery. This experience was so fun and I’m really going to miss her when she leaves.

Over the past term and few weeks, we have been competing in the ACS winter season. The AFL team have had a great season full of fun and hard work, taking home some wins too! We have represented our school is various sports across the winter season, from netball to basketball. The hard work has really paid off with a season full of fun to come.
