An inspiring commencement

From Year 9

Year 9 students had a very busy but great start to the final term of the year. It has been a hectic fortnight with the Art and Technology Exhibition and many other activities happening at the College in the last two weeks. On Monday, Sr Sally Bradley from Mercy Works came and shared her experiences and the work they did to support communities in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Many of us were inspired by her presentation. It will be a busy but fruitful term to finish off the school year.

This week, Sister Bradley from Mercy Works came to share her inspiring experience helping the First Nations communities in Australia and Papua New Guinea. She shared how spiritually fulfilling the work was for her and how she has changed many lives for the better with the charity's help. The Year 8 and 9 cohort found her stories of helping others to be motivating, shedding light on the good that we can bring to our world.

The Arts and Technology Exhibition took place last Thursday. It was an exciting experience where students showcased their practical and creative skills. A highlight for me was the fashion parade, where the textiles students modelled their hoodies, corsets, and various VET projects. Many people received Creative Spark and Principal Awards to honour their hard work throughout the year.

The Year 9 food class assisted Miss Forslind in making some baked goods to sell at the Art & Technology show last Thursday. All the baked goods were Australian classics such as honey joys, Mars Bar slice, rocky road, and many more.

Having this stall to sell our baked goods gave us the opportunity to work in a food preparation environment. We were not cooking for ourselves but preparing for the public, so we practised further skills in our food handling and preparation. This was a great experience and equipped us all with new skills within the food area.

We all loved seeing our class showcase some of our cooking on the night and what we have learnt thus far in the trimester. We raised $254 for our Mercy Women’s House charity, which was a fantastic result!
