From Year 9
On Monday, Year 9 students were honoured to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance. The event commenced with an acknowledgment of the traditional custodians of the land, followed by impactful speeches from distinguished government officials. The solemnity of the occasion was heightened by the playing of the Last Post, after which we observed a minute of silence. Students also witnessed RAAF planes flying over the Shrine and the release of pigeons, which symbolise peace and freedom. This day served as a poignant reminder of the significance of remembrance and community.
As Year 9 students prepare for their upcoming examinations, they have a remarkable opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the exam process and to understand their individual learning styles. I urge all students to approach this experience with an open mind and a positive attitude. Remember, it’s not only the final results that matter; it’s the personal growth and invaluable lessons students take away from the journey and embrace this challenge.

Today, we went to the Remembrance Day ceremony and paid our respects to the fallen soldiers in the war. We got to experience the ceremonial songs, marches and traditions such as the loud cannons that fire at the beginning and end of the one minute of silence. It was a very beautiful ceremony, and it was fascinating to see so many people coming together to remember.

During our time at the Shrine Of Remembrance, we learnt and appreciated a lot. We felt extremely touched by the ceremony and are grateful we got to pay our respects to the fallen soldiers. After the ceremony, we were fortunate enough to be interviewed by the ABC, where we discussed the event further, including what it meant to us and our experiences there.

On Remembrance Day this year, the Year 9 cohort was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony. We witnessed the entire ceremony, including the cannon fire, laying of the wreaths and release of the pigeons. We had a fantastic time and appreciated the service of the World War 1 Veterans and all others more than ever.

On Monday the 11th November, the Year 9 cohort went to The Shrine of Remembrance to pay respects to the fallen soldiers of World War 1. The memorial was opened with a smoking ceremony, followed by marches and commemorative songs, as well as the governor’s speech. This day allowed us to learn more about Australia’s contribution to history, as well as make connections with our current humanities topic of World War 1. Some highlights of this service were seeing fighter jets fly above us, the two shots of a cannon, and the laying of the wreaths. This was a great experience as we were able to witness a commemorative service firsthand, honouring the ANZAC soldiers and their sacrifices for our country and future.
