From Year 10
The second half of the Academic Year means that Year 10 students change their electives. Students are offered a range of options throughout the year including subjects such as Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, STEM, Literature, VCE Food Studies, Philosophy, Textiles, Biology Unit 1, Drama and Health and Human Development Unit 1.
It is always a pleasure to be able to see what students are achieving in these elective subjects and observe how talented they are. In Semester 1 often walked by the art room and saw the class progressing in their paintings. I so wanted to stop and join in. The class teacher, Maria Cunnington has kindly written a piece to explain what the Visual Arts class was completing and included some photos of the gorgeous photos the students completed.
Andrea Barr, Year 10 Team Leader
The Year 10 Art students have been working diligently in Semester One in Art and completed the course with an acrylic painting. They referred to artist Georgia O’Keeffe as their main source of inspiration for subject matter, painting style and scaled up composition. The students selected a flower based on symbolic meaning and upscaled the image, some to the point of abstraction, to demonstrate the intrinsic beauty of the subject, as in the words of O’Keeffe herself; When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not”
