From the Principal
Our attention this week is drawn to the beginning of Holy Week, which we celebrate this coming Sunday. Jesus rode that day, two thousand or so years ago, on a young donkey, making a very humble entry into the great city of Jerusalem.
From the Deputy Principal
Parents and carers have much to consider when choosing a secondary school for their child. Learning programs, VCE results, future readiness, co-curricular options.
Faith and Mission
As part of the topic of Lent and Easter in Religious Education classes for Year 9, students at St Aloysius College have been focusing on the Stations of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross is a 14-step Catholic Lenten devotion that offers witness to Jesus’ Passion and Death.
Sports Update
It’s been a busy term in ACS Sport and we congratulate all Year 7 & 8’s for their commitment and participation. Highlights in the past fortnight have included our Year 7 Girls' Soccer team defeating Loyola 5-4 and Westbourne 14-1! Congratulations to Chloe Korras (7D) who has already scored 12 goals in the first two games including 9 against Westbourne. An amazing achievement!
School Holiday Sleep & Mental Health Tips
School holidays are often a time for fun with family and friends, trips out of the city or to a new one, and an opportunity to “catch up on sleep”. While it is very common to want to relax our evening and morning routines during the holidays, sleep science research supports the need for consistent bedtimes and wake times across the week.
Catholic Schools Art Competition
This year St Aloysius is delighted to announce that we have two students that placed in the Arts competition for 2023.
Community Noticeboard
STEMies returns!
Food Tech
Students have been enjoying longer lessons this year so we have been doing more visual demonstrations. There are lots of learning opportunities through class discussion around the demonstration taking place, which also supports different students' learning styles.
VCEVM
As part of the students' study of work related skills with a focus on collaboration and communication they have been exploring teamwork which includes skills such as active listening, problem solving, critical and creative thinking and effective communication.
Health & PE
On March 21, the Unit 3&4 PE class took part in a live fitness testing session which is part of the VCE PE Study Design. Two students Imogen Luke (Wingate Test) and Poppy Conti (Vo2 Max) volunteered to be subjects. As part of the process METs Performance collected data on Heart Rate, power output, cadence, acute responses to exercise, lactate levels, fatigue and recovery.
From Year 7
Year 7 students have been busy this term in their language classes singing along to songs, testing their knowledge through competitive games of Kahoot and Blooket, watching cultural videos and consolidating what they have learnt on Education Perfect.
From Year 8
With only one week left of Term 1, I am feeling grateful for all the learning and opportunities for growth provided to each student during the term; camps, excursions, incursions, ACS sports and training, musical auditions and rehearsals, the school mass, and more.
From Year 9
A big congratulations to Fadzai Bako from 9B who spoke at the St Kilda vs Western Bulldogs football match on Saturday 25th March. She spoke about her work with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation and her participation with this inspirational foundation.
From Year 10
During Nourish this week, Year 10 students met with their Year 7 mentees in the 7&10 Mentors Session. During this session, students worked together in their mentor team on unpacking what it means to create and maintain a safe environment that fosters positive relationships inside and outside school.
From the Senior Years
VCE Students have an important role to play in the life of the St Aloysius College community – students are at the centre of what we do everyday as teachers. Their learning and wellbeing is important, as is their voice and experience of Term 1 2023.
